Carved Walnut Armchairs

These highly ornate inlaid armchairs probably date to the early 17th century, and it is likely that they were produced in Northern Italy.  They are characterised by a very heavily carved back and stretcher with the design centering on rectangular panels in the stretcher and back of the chair.  These panels are inlaid with arabesques and figurative designs.  Though very similar in style and ornamentation these chairs were probably originally not made as a pair.
