Model of a Ship

This wooden ship model is one of several in the Palazzo Falson Collection.  Ships featured greatly in the Gollcher family fortunes.  Captain Olof’s grandfather had settled in Malta in 1848 setting up a shipping company which thrived, and remains in operation to this very day. A practising artist himself and no stranger to trying out new challenges, Olof Gollcher had even turned his hand to building ship models although this particular one was probably acquired.  It represents a ship type which was current in the mid-19th century, and the model itself was probably executed a few decades later in the early 20th century.
