Dusk Dialogues: Conversations on Smithing and Casting

We are back with our series of talks Dusk Dialogues, kicking off the season with conversations on smithing and casting!   

 Join us for our upcoming Dusk Dialogues talk featuring special guests Stephen Petroni and Christopher and Lisa from Funderija Artistika Chetcuti bringing together their knowledge on smithing and casting.   

 Stephen Petroni is a collector, researcher and conservator of arms and militaria and has been since 1973 and Christopher and Lisa from Funderija Artistika Chetcuti, represent the only artistic bronze foundry in Malta which focuses on the lost wax casting process.   

This talk aims to spark dialogue around the craft, the functional, creative and unique works that are created from this medium.

Introducing our guest speaker – Stephen Petroni 

Stephen Petroni is a collector, researcher and conservator of arms and militaria and has been since 1973. He is founder of the Association of Maltese Arms Collectors & Shooters (1985) and the Historical Re-Enactment Group of Malta (1998).  

During conversations on smithing and casting, we will explore the craftsmanship and skills involved in creating functional and decorative firearms, making connections with research on the arms and armour collection at Palazzo Falson.

Introducing our guest speakers – Christopher and Lisa from Funderija Artistika Chetcuti 

Funderija Artistika Chetcuti is the only artistic bronze foundry in Malta which focuses on the lost wax casting process.

Christopher is a Maltese sculptor whose training developed over two decades working in bronze, he investigates literary texts, nature, and everyday objects.  

Lisa has a background in art history, cultural management, media and communications, project management and development. She is an independent writer and curator, a maker and an aesthete for as long as she can remember.   

During conversations on smithing and casting, we will explore the process of designing, creating and curating the collaborative work undertaken by Funderija Artistika Chetcuti.
