GRAMPUS heritage vocational training in collaboration with Palazzo Falson organised a fun-filled educational week themed 'Sustaining Heritage, Present meets Past' for four British students - Sarah Liggett, Christina Westhoff, Emily Simpson and Oliver Packer.
The students were greeted by curator Caroline Tonna and all the staff offered the students the opportunity to learn about the history of the historic house museum and participate in the daily management of the museum.
They also took part in a number of workshops. Gaetano Saliba was guest artist who demonstrated the art of filigree making to the students who enjoyed learning the basic techniques of filgree making. Annamaria Gatt, an authority in lace history and lace making, as well as curator of costume and textile at Heritage Malta, led a lace making workshop. Each student had a lace pillow to try out some basic stitches in lace making.
They also rolled up their sleeves to participate in the museum's Pollinator Haven project, under the guidance of Sarah Baldacchino and Jelena Jakovljevic from Vivacity, who are experienced in green roofing. Maria Falzon, a museum volunteer shared her sound knowledge on Maltese habitat and biodiversity.
A special thanks goes to Jeanette Ellul, who introduced the students to our archival cataloguing process, Abigail Pace and Leah Borg for the smooth organisation of the programme, Jessica Grech for giving the students a guided tour of Mdina and Rabat, Hannah Portanier for our social media posts and interns Cecile Jean and Georgette Sisowath for helping out throughout the week.
We all enjoyed every second of it!
