Summer Masterclasses in cast drawing and portrait painting with Madeleine Gera at Palazzo Falson

June 9, 2010

Enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Mdina and be inspired by the evocative atmosphere of Palazzo Falson to create your own artworks this summer. Under the professional guidance of artist Madeleine Gera, you will draw and paint a number of works in oil based on casts and from life. The beautiful surroundings of Palazzo Falson, with breath-taking views over the island and roofscape of Mdina, is the ideal location to inject you with creativity. The former home of artist Captain Olof Gollcher, Palazzo Falson has provided inspiration to generations of artists.

Madeleine Gera is a painter committed to working within the naturalistic tradition to learn more about the techniques and process found in the atelier method of painting. She works mostly from life, using the alla prima method of painting. Madeleine Gera was awarded a long term bursary to study art in Florence after completing her University course in Malta. She now runs her own studio in Valletta where she teaches and paints and divides her time between Malta and Florence. She has exhibited in several countries including The United States, Italy and France. Her portraits and paintings can be found in private collections both in Malta and abroad.

The course will commence on Tuesday 6th July and will consist of 8 sessions, to be held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings throughout July between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

Focused, individual attention by means of demonstrations and individual critiques are guaranteed as the course is limited to 6 participants only. The course is intended for advanced beginners and intermediate level students of 18 years or over. The Tuesday sessions will focus on cast drawing and the Thursday sessions will be dedicated to painting a portrait of a model from life (a model will be provided by the organizers).

The cost of participation is of €200. Early registration will entitle participants to a discounted rate of €160.*
