Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum embarks on a travel programme
Last October Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum organised a four-day exclusive group tour to Rome, to visit the historic houses and palaces of some of the most powerful and fascinating characters to live in Rome and shape its history. Ranging from the private papal quarters, to homes of noblemen, collectors and artists, this tour really took in the best that Rome has to offer, in line with Palazzo Falson’s mission to bring to the fore the study of historic homes and their various owners.
Some of the highlights of the tour included a visit to the Galleria Borghese, an exclusive tour of the Nicoline Chapel followed by lunch in the Courtyard of the Pines at the Vatican, as well as visits to other historic houses like Villa Torlonia, Giorgio de Chirico’s private apartments overlooking Piazza di Spagna, Villa Farnesina and Palazzo Colonna, amongst others.
The group was led by a local art historian, greeted and guided by the various curators and directors of these house museums, and occasionally allowed access into various rooms and sections of the houses which are normally closed to the general public. One of the most pleasant surprises for the group was undoubtedly the visit to the Villa Malta grounds on the Aventine Hill, its splendid gardens and the church designed by Piranesi. Due to popular demand, Palazzo Falson is already working on its next group trip to view the historic homes of another European capital. The visit is scheduled for Autumn 2014. Participation will be limited to Friends of Palazzo Falson only.
