Vince Briffa discusses Contemporary Art and jazz band Cusp perform, at an evening event at Palazzo Falson on the 1st June 2012 at 8pm
The Talk:
During the last thirty years, Vince Briffa has created work of a predominantly conceptual nature in a variety of media, ranging from drawing and painting to photography, video, and interactive installations for galleries, museums and other public spaces. His work negotiates the co-existence of dualities positing the ‘screen’ as the seam that holds together the boundaries of disparate realities.
The majority of Briffa’s work draws as vehicle on collections, both physical and virtual. His concern is to re-consider the form of such anthologies and re-use or re-cycle their content into new discourse objects, themselves in states of in-between, that undulate between their singular and collective constituency in search of an alternative reality.
The artist:

Studied Fine Art at the Edinburgh College of Art, holds an MA with distinction in Fine Art & Digital Media from Leeds University and a Ph.D. from the Electronic and Digital Art Unit of the University of Central Lancashire in the UK. The Music:
CUSP is a trio which was formed earlier this year and which plays original compositions and jazz standards with original arrangements, drawing interest by moving away from the more traditional sounds.
The band is made up of Luke Briffa on drums, Alan Portelli on bass and Jes Psaila on guitar, all of whom are not newcomers to the local scene. Each musician has a diverse musical background, yet all three members share a particular interest in improvised music.
